Kirby on form for South Weald
T. Rippon Mid Essex League Division 3
South Weald 1st XI 235-9 Boreham 1st XI 193-9
The first weekend of the new T.Rippon Mid-Essex league season saw South Weald 1st XI entertain Boreham 1st XI at a damp and lush Sandpit Lane.
Weald had picked a strong batting line-up and chose to bat first but were soon in trouble at 34-4.
Number 3 Davey was the only member of the top order to hang around and progressed to a powerfully compiled 67 before being clean bowled. Wickets fell at regular intervals until an 8th wicket partnership of 71 between Warne (42) and the hard-hitting Kirby (68) helped bolster the Weald total to 235-9 at the innings close.
The Boreham reply got off to a slow start with Kirby continuing his form with the ball, taking three early wickets, and after 22 overs Boreham were 58-5.
With the total looking beyond Boreham, the burly Yeomans started hitting out and raced past 50.
With 10 overs left and Yeomans still at the crease, Boreham were in with a sniff of victory but Weald maintained their discipline and Yeomans fell soon after for 90. With that, the Boreham innings subsided to finish at 193-9. Kirby was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 4-44 from his 12 overs.
Next week Weald will hope to claim another win when they travel to South Woodham Ferrers.
