Legal & General financial services company is the latest corporation to back the employment of older workers.
Research by L&G, whose regional centre in Ipswich employs many people from north Essex, has shown the benefits an active policy of employing older workers can bring.
Vanessa Sallows, L&G’s benefits and governance director, said: “The appointment of Ros Altman as Business Champion for Older Workers in 2014 flagged a shift in the way the Government wants us to view our 65+ year old employees.
“Our research shows many companies are already benefitting from employing older workers.
“Employers are very positive with only 5 per cent saying they would be hesitant about employing more people of 65 or over.”
Ms Sallows said the move towards a more senior workforce would also benefit the wider British economy.
“Research, conducted by the National Institute for Economic and Social Research, has found that if everyone worked one year longer, the UK’s GDP could increase by one per cent, the equivalent to £16billion,” she said.
