ESSEX band the Dead Formats offer their take on punk when they play at the Railway Hotel, Southend, on Saturday.
With music as sharp as their dress sense, the six boys from Chelmsford recapture the style of sound that brought bands like the Clash and the Jam to the attention of the world.
Jagged guitars and distorted basslines, underpinned by catchy choruses and melodies, have helped the group clinch three backing slots for the Lostprophets’ Reading and Leeds Festival warm-up shows.
The band, which features Chris Spencer on guitar, a former paperboy for the Southend Echo, are embarking on their own tour in support of their six-track, self-titled mini album, which is out now.
With an unrivalled attitude and self-belief, the Dead Formats and their nod to Seventies pop, punk and soul, are ones to watch. Doors to the venue, in Clifftown Road, open at 8pm and entry is £4.
