Willem Dafoe doesn't regret making box office flop John Carter
Willem Dafoe has admitted he was disappointed that John Carter bombed at the box office.
The Oscar-nominated actor played alien chief Tars Tarkas in Disney's big-budget CGI sci-fi epic, which was intended to be a franchise.
Willem confessed: "I feel bad that there won't be a sequel. I don't want to go on about it. But it's true I was disappointed that its reception wasn't as great as I think it deserved."
But the Spider-Man star has no regrets.
"I can honestly say I don't regret any movie because I know why I intended to do it. Sometimes it doesn't work out well, but I always have a good intention."
The 56-year-old actor - whose latest film The Hunter is a psychological drama set in Tasmania - has made over 60 films in his career so far, varying from indie flicks to comic book movies to action thrillers.
He said: "The big thing is you need a balanced diet. It helps. It exercises different muscles.
"One of the reasons I mix it up is I feel like each time you change your approach, that staves off a certain kind of corruption that's inevitable in any job. When you keep on doing the same thing, habit creeps in. And then with habit comes a kind of automatic-ness and a lack of passion, and your passion goes some place else."
He added: "I don't want that to happen! Because it's too humiliating, performing is too personal to let that happen."
:: The Hunter is released in cinemas on Friday, July 6.
