A SECURITY guard was tasered by armed robbers while he made a cash delivery to a post office.

The 30-year-old from Dagenham was assaulted by two men at about 11am as he was making the delivery to the post office in Eastham Crescent, Hutton.

As he left the premises carrying a cash box, a balaclava-wearing man brandished a taser which was shot into the guard.

The thug, who had a baseball bat-wielding accomplice, also wearing a balaclava, demanded money, but when it was discovered the box was empty, both ran off empty handed towards The Broadwalk South.

Officers investigating the incident believe the men may have had a getaway vehicle waiting for them nearby.

PC Leanne Ford said: “As well as appealing for witnesses to the actual robbery, we’re keen to hear from people who saw these two men run off towards The Broadwalk South.

“They may have had a getaway vehicle, in which case they probably would have gone down Hanging Hill Lane or along the A128 at speed, thereby attracting the attention of passing motorists.”

Paramedics treated the security guard at the scene, but he did not require hospital treatment.

The crooks were both wearing black jackets and blue jeans. The man holding the taser gun was described as being about 5ft 6ins while the other is said to be 6ft 2ins.

Police are urging anyone who saw the incident or believe they saw the crooks running away from the scene to contact detectives at Basildon CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
