Call for speed survey after pet deaths

A CALL has been made for new safety measures on a residential road in Pilgrims Hatch, after a number of pets were killed.

Essex County Council has been contacted by Brentwood councillor Vicky Davies after residents of Orchard Lane complained about speeding motorists.

Mrs Davies, Lib Dem councillor for Pilgrims Hatch, said the road is used by drivers as a shortcut during rush hour.

She added: “This once quiet lane is constantly being used as a rat run to the A128 Ongar Road.

“Distressed residents have asked that measures are introduced to slow the traffic after losing several pets under the wheels of the cars.”

A spokesman for the county council said: “Speeding on Orchard Lane has been raised with Essex County Council and this location has been put forward to the Local Highways Panel for review and consideration of further action.”
