FOOTBALLERS are being encouraged to “check their tackle” as part of a new six-a-side league’s formation in Brentwood.

Leisure Leagues, which has set up a league at St Martin’s School, in Hanging Hill Lane, is donating proceeds from its matches to a number of cancer charities.

As part of the fundraising, organisers are asking players to check their genitalia for lumps or swelling which can be signs of testicular cancer, a disease which kills around 100 men every year.

Stephanie Bullock, the company’s executive director, said: “We’re the only national provider of small sided leagues which is committed to putting all its surplus profits into good causes.

“We’re very proud to be associated with such charities as Cancer Research, who are the UK’s leading charity dedicated to cancer research.”

Teams interested in joining the new league can find out more by either calling 0845 2302340 or visiting www.leisureleagues.net
