AN ENGINEER has climbed his way to the top of Africa’s tallest mountain to raise £2,700 for a hospice.

Chris Worden went up Kilimanjaro, in Tanzania, to fundraise for Havering-based St Francis Hospice, which helped care for his father John, from Brentwood.

Chris, who works at Ford Dunton, endured temperatures of minus 20C as he climbed the mountain, 5,895 metres above sea level, over seven days.

He said he was proud to complete the challenge in aid of those who provided so much help for his dad.

Chris said: “I’ve not done anything like this before and I wanted to do something big.

“After Dad passed away I thought I’d sign up for a trek and raise money for St Francis Hospice because of the support it gave us.”

Donations can still be made to Mr Worden by visiting www.justgiving.com/chris-worden or text CLIMB69 followed by the amount you want to give, to 70070.
