Part-time fire officer role for Ingatestone

RESIDENTS are being sought to help tackle blazes from a village fire station.

Essex County Fire and Rescue want to hear from men and women who would be interested in becoming a retained officer based at Ingatestone.

The role would mean crew members are not employed on a full-time basis, but are on alert via pager to be called to incidents when needed and still get paid for the job.

Applicants are required to be physically fit and able to respond to call-outs and be at the station in High Street within five minutes.

Jon Sherington, assistant divisional officer for the service, said: “We know there’s a wealth of people at home during the day who would welcome the opportunity of extra income while doing something extremely valuable to the community where they live.

“The hours are flexible and staff are paid depending on the number of hours they are able to commit to.

“Across the county, we have retained firefighters from diverse backgrounds and a wide range of professions and ages, so there are no barriers in terms of applying.

"Applicants will obviously need to be fit enough to deal with the rigours of the job and have a good standard of general education.”
