A GOLF driving range is going to be given a refurbishment after being taken over by new owners.

Brentwood Park Golf Range, off Warley Gap, is being given a makeover following UK Golf Academy acquiring the site with a view to turn it into a centre of excellence.

The company, run by golfers Stuart Humpheries and Craig Stephenson, is currently carrying out work to make the premises safer while also trying to give it a more family orientated feel.

This will include the installation of larger bays at the driving range and new LED lighting to make it easier for players to use the venue in the evening.

Mr Humpheries said before starting the revamp they listened to golfers who use the range about what they think should be done to the site.

He said: “We have heard from previous customers that the refit is well overdue. Our aim is to provide a top quality practice facility.”

Mr Stephenson added: “We want to provide a halfway house between a golf club and driving range and a happy family friendly environment.”

Alongside the improvements being made to the range, which is part of the Brentwood Leisure Park, the venue’s shop area is also being refurbished.

Plans are also in place for an astroturfed putting green to be installed to the premises.

The range will stay open while work is carried out.
