Boxing club to open new home in Hutton
7:00am Monday 2nd September 2013 in News
BOXERS will give people the chance to see what they do as their new home is formally opened on Saturday.
The ribbon will be cut at Brentwood Boxing Youth Academy’s gym and practice area in Prospect Way, Hutton, after spending the last couple of years going in between venues around the town.
To celebrate the opening, members of the club will welcome the public in to have a look around their base and see some sparring action along with presentation of Boxing GCSEs run by them.
Head coach Joe Taylor said having the 3,600 square foot building to train in is great and there is more the club who have produced Team GB boxers including Danny Dignum would like to do.
Mr Taylor said: “We have a huge gym space, cafeteria and showers but there is still space for other things.
“What we would love to do is set up a youth club on the top floor of the building to try and get in the community use and keep adding bits to it.
“We are also looking at setting up courses to mentor kids who are troubled or at a stage of their life where they could go either way.
“We have this building on a lease basis and one day it would be fantastic to buy a place of our own, but the kids love it and although we have a few bits we’d like to add, it is a beautiful building built along the lines of the Team GB elite training gym in Sheffield.”
Before moving their new home, the club had been based in the Hutton Community Centre and the Warley Training Centre.
