GP surgery in Brentwood to stay open
7:30am Saturday 28th September 2013 in News
A DOCTOR'S surgery has taken over services from another GPs in Brentwood to help keep the building open.
Managers of the New Surgery in Shenfield Road agreed to run NHS services from The Brambles in Geary Drive starting from Tuesday.
Earlier this year Malling Health, who run the surgery next to Highwood Hospital, announced they would be terminating their contract with the NHS.
The change over means patients will be able to continue receiving free health care services at the building, something chiefs from the NHS said they were pleased about.
Ian Stidston, NHS England director of commissioning for Essex, said: “We are pleased that the New Surgery is going to continue to provide services to patients registered at The Brambles surgery.
“The patients will further benefit from the additional services the New Surgery offers.”
Appointments will be available at The Brambles on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays between 8am and 6.30pm.
GPs and nurses at the New Surgery will be open for appointments to Brambles patients outside of these times.
More services will also be provided at the premises including minor surgery and a patient reference group.
Despite the surgery being saved, users can still opt out of the new arrangement and sign up to a different one.
A spokesperson explained: “The establishment of the branch surgery does not affect any patients’ right to choose an alternative GP.
“Patients may register at any practice operating an open list, as long as they fall into the practice boundary.”
