Opposition councillor sacked as committee chairman
1:32pm Friday 25th October 2013 in News
A CHAIRMAN has been fired from her post on a Brentwood Council committee.
Lib Dem member Karen Chilvers was removed as Overview and Scrutiny chairman after a motion was forward by the authority’s deputy leader Roger Hirst at a Ordinary Council meeting.
This followed after a vote of no confidence was made to ruling Conservative councillors at a O&S meeting on September 18.
The motion forwarded by the Conservatives was seen as controversial and after a very heated debate in the council chamber a vote which scored 20-15 in favour of sacking Ms Chilvers was cast.
Another vote saw Conservative Noelle Hones become the replacement for the position.
This was allowed as Mr Hirst’s motion included changing the constitution to allow the chairman of Overview and Scrutiny to be any councillor, rather than specifically an opposition member.
