THOUSANDS of people flocked to the town’s Christmas lights switch on.

Lighting-up Brentwood saw the High Street and neighbouring town centre roads lit up on Saturday with an estimated 12,000 spectators joining in the fun.

Festivities included the chance to meet the Snowman and Snowdog, characters from the famous Raymond Briggs story.

The Snowman helped turn the lights with deputy mayor Mark Reed, James Malby, seven, winner the mayor’s Xmas card competition, Father Christmas and Lynda Brown from event sponsor Co-op Funeralcare.

Market stalls and games were set up around the town along with stages in the High Street and Crown Street where bands performed live throughout the event.
