ROADSHOWS will be held by Brentwood Council to promote recycling over Christmas.

Staff will be in High Street, Brentwood, on December 12 and West Horndon Community Hall the following day between 11am and 1pm.

Visits will also be made to Brentwood Library on December 19 and Shenfield Library the next day between 10am and 1pm.

Information about what can be recycled will be available at the events along with the chance to grab hold of extra bags.

Keith Parker, the authority’s spokesman for the environment, said stats show a lot of material put in bin bags locally could be recycled and the council want to give more information about recycling.

The Tory councillor said: “The last waste analysis showed that 70 per cent of materials in black bags could be recycled, but as it is not in the correct orange bag or food caddy it will get sent to landfil.

“By recycling ten per cent more, we could potentially earn almost £32,000.”
