CHRISTMAS travel arrangements are set to be disrupted around Brentwood as stormy weather is set to hit the east of England.

Amber warnings have been put out by the Met Office with 70mph winds and heavy rainfall is expected across the south on Monday night and the early hours of Christmas Eve.

Continguency plans have already been put in place by Greater Anglia who will from 6pm today will run trains through Brentwood, Ingatestone and Shenfield at reduced speeds.

Some services will be cancelled this evening and no trains are not expected to run until 10am at the earliest to allow engineers to check overhead wire conditions.

Motorists are also being advised to take caution or not to travel at all by the Highways Agency due to the strong winds.

Warnings have also been put out over potential flooding and fallen trees in the road.
