SIXTY residents have signed a petition asking for double yellow lines outside a shop to be extended along Hanging Hill Lane in Hutton.

Set up by Eric Lowe, of Kandlewood, Hutton, the petition is calling for the lines by the Tesco Express store be to lengthened further up the road.

The 65-year-old started the campaign after noticing a number of motorists parking either side of the road on a bend to use the shop, blocking vision further down the street.

Mr Lowe said: "There are spaces outside the shop but drivers just don't seem to care.

"It can cause absolute mayhem travelling along the road and it is an accident waiting to happen."

The petition will be presented at Brentwood Council's next ordinary council meeting by John Kerslake, Conservative councillor for Hutton Central.

Mr Kerslake said: "I know from speaking to people that there is a strong feeling in the area that something needs to be done."

Anyone who wishes to add their name to the petition should write or visit the Brentwood Conservative Association's office in Crown Street, Brentwood.
