Improvements made at school in Pilgrims Hatch
4:30pm Wednesday 15th January 2014 in News
A primary school in Pilgrims Hatch is officially improving.
In June, Ofsted said Larchwood Primary School had “serious weaknesses” in areas such as the standard of teaching - plus pupils were not making enough progress.
However after a follow-up visit, inspectors have said the school is making positive improvements in all areas.
Headteacher Ryan Duff said it was good to impress the inspectors but added the school must not stop here.
Mr Duff said: “We had already started making improvements when Ofsted came in June, but the results from these had not come through at that time so we didn’t have the evidence to show this which was disappointing.
“But you cannot wallow on this and we have moved forward to make sure the standard of teaching and learning improves, making sure what happens in class is at least good.
“It is great to hear Ofsted are happy with us but we cannot let it slip back, we have to keep our foot on the gas and accelerate some more.”
The report came in the same week it was announced St Martin’s High School would act as Larchwood’s sponsor when they become an academy on May 1.
