A MAN who has been selling ice cream for more than 30 years was voted the best ice cream seller in the UK.

John Bonar, 50, from Brentwood, who runs Piccadilly Whip, was given the Mobiler of the Year award by the Ice Cream Alliance.

The firm operate 18 vans and kiosks throughout London and Essex out of their Piccadilly House base in South Ockendon.

John’s grandmother started the company in 1963 and at the age of 11, John used to go out and help.

Father-of-three, John, said it meant a lot to win the award: “I love it and grew up with a passion for ice cream, selling ice, cream is all I’ve ever wanted to do, it really is in my blood.

“I’ve never entered anything like this before so I was very pleased, surprised and honoured to receive the award.”

Zelica Carr, Chief Executive of the Ice Cream Alliance, who are the trade body for the UK’s £1billion per year ice cream industry, said: “John's passion and professionalism is inspirational. He provides an exceptional service to his customers and he is a credit to the ice cream industry.”

John added that his mother, wife and three children were both very proud when they heard the news.
