THE MOTHER of a diabetic boy from Brentwood is urging people to take part in a Government consultation looking at improving care for children with the condition.

Fiona McCarthy, from Hutton, is keen for parents to take part in the consultation as her son has Type 1 Diabetes.

Joshua, 12 was diagnosed with the condition at the age of 5 and since then has always taken it in his stride and been very open about it.

In year 6 at his school in Brentwood, as a House Captain he managed to raise £2000 through fundraising activities for Diabetes UK.

The consultation has been launched following the publication of draft government guidance notes on what schools will be expected to do from September to support children with medical conditions.

Ms McCarthy said: “This legislation is an extremely positive step and I would urge everyone to have their say and take part in the consultation.

“Medical conditions such as diabetes should not mean that children miss out on any aspect of school.”
