MORE than 4,000 people took to the streets of Brentwood on Sunday for the annual half marathon and fun run.

The fastest time on the 13.1mile route was recorded by James Connor, 31, who finished the course in 1:07:46.

Meanwhile, Callum Charleston, 16, was first around the three-mile long fun run course in a time of 15:34.

A number of charities were represented through the runners including a team of 230 known as Lily’s Legends doing the race in aid of the Neuroblastoma Society, raising £40,000.

The group is named after two-year-old Lily Vidler who was diagnosed with the rare form of cancer last year.

Her aunt Emma Ambrose, 35, who also lives in Rayleigh, said: “It was the first time me and many other members of the team had done anything like this and running around the course was hideous.

“But we wanted to do it because it was such a challenge and I did find it really enjoyable, although I could barely walk the day after.”

The event, over a 13.1 mile course, was organised by the Rotary Club of Brentwood a’ Becket.

It was the borough's 33rd Brentwood Half Marathon - and the biggest yet.

The event was sponsored by LV and started at 10am at Becket Keys CofE School in Sawyers Hall Lane.
