A YOUNG type one diabetes sufferer from Hutton has been rewarded after helping raise more than £2,000 for charity.
Joshua McCarthy was given the Young People’s Outstanding Contribution award at the Diabetes UK regional Inspire Awards.
Last year during his final year at St Thomas of Canterbury Junior School in Brentwood, Joshua managed to get his pupils and teachers to help carry out a number of fundraising projects for the charity.
In total more than £2,051 was raised through his and classmates' efforts.
After winning the prize, Joshua said: "I have never let my diabetes stop me doing anything and I just want to show people that it doesn’t have to.
"Raising money to help others and maybe helping find a cure is something I enjoy and will carry on doing."
