SHAKY sets and overacting are all set to be played out by amateur performers in the musical version of a classic comedy sketch.

The Blackmore Players are bringing Acorn Antiques to the Blackmore Village Hall for a three night run of shows starting next Thursday.

The musical is based on the regular sketch which appeared on Victoria Wood’s As Seen On TV programme during the 1980s.

Set up as a parody to soap operas, the production is based in a shop called Acorn Antiques based in the fictional town of Manchesterford.

Comedy within the piece comes from obsurd storylines, poor acting, low production values and wobbley sets.

After appearing both series of her show, Wood helped turn the sketch into a West End musical in 2005.

Actress Celia Imrie won an Olivier Award for her performance as Miss Babs, who she also played in the TV version.

Performances on each night at the village hall begin at 8pm with an extra matinee show on Saturday starting at 2.30pm.

Tickets cost £5 on opening night, £10 for the next two evenings and £7 for the matinee.
