THE family of man killed when he was hit by a van in Brentwood were left disappointed at the 24-week suspended sentence handed down to the driver.
Curtis McDonald, a former RAF Regiment Gunner, was struck by a van on Kings Road outside Brentwood railway station in December 2012.
The 49-year-old Junction Road in Warley was taken to Romford’s Queens Hospital by paramedics but sadly died a short time after arriving.
Stuart Webb, 49, of Britannia Road, Warley was arrested at the scene and pleaded guilty to to causing death by careless driving in April.
At Basildon Crown Court on Tuesday, May 27, Webb was sentenced to 24 weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for two years. He was also disqualified from driving for two years.
In a statement, Curtis’ family said: "We are disappointed with the sentencing. We accept that Stuart Webb admitted that he was guilty of causing the death of Curtis by careless driving and we thank Essex Police and the Crown Prosecution Service for their hard work over the past 18 months.
"We now seek to move on, but Curtis will always be in our thoughts and prayers."
