BRENTWOOD Council has joined other local authorities across Essex to take a unique approach to tackling litter by joining forces with three fast food giants.

All 14 Essex councils, supported by Keep Britain Tidy, Essex County Council, RP2 Media and The Highways Agency, will work alongside McDonalds, KFC and Dominos to raise awareness of litter and the risk of fines for those that offend.

This is the first time a campaign of this type has been run in the drive against litter and will see the fast food chains promoting anti-litter messages which are backed up by local activities and enforcement throughout the local authorities in Essex.

In Hutton earlier today, a drop in Litter and Recycling Road Show took place at the Community Centre on Harrison Close, and the Neighbourhood Action Team did a tidy up and litter pick around the Hutton Recreation area.

There were also representatives from the Brentwood Area Neighbourhood Watch and Essex Watch – who by working together aim to encourage being good neighbours and keeping Brentwood a safe and happy place to live. Tomorrow (June 4), there will be another similar road show at the Brentwood Centre on Doddinghurst Road.

Saturday, June 7 will see Kelvedon Hatch Parish Council host a community litter pick. Any volunteers who want to join in should meet at 10am at Swan Pond, Blackmore Road, and for further details liaise with the parish council by emailing clerk@kelvedonhatch-pc.gov.uk.

Road shows will also take place outside the chapel ruins in Brentwood High Street on Friday, June 20, from 11am-1pm, and on Friday, June 27, at the West Horndon Community Centre from 11am-1pm.
