THE incoming leader of Brentwood Borough Council has outlined some of the key objectives from the new administration.
Barry Aspinall, leader of the Lib Dem group, is set to be announced as leader on Wednesday, June, 11, after his group, Brentwood First, Labour and independent Roger Keeble formed a “rainbow accord” after the Tories lost overall control of the council following the elections two weeks ago.
Brentwood First leader William Lloyd is set to be appointed as deputy leader.
The accord has said their administration will be an open book, with everything discussed in the public domain.
Mr Aspinall said: “We will open up the chamber of secrets. There will be no secrets in this administration; it will all be openly discussed in full glare of the public.
“For me it’s about revenue, revenue, revenue. Spending has got to be done in a different way than before and we must make sure we can deliver services at the lowest cost to our residents but without reducing staff numbers and services dwindling.
He added: “There are assets that will be inspected. Some may be sold but they will have to have a good return, and that’s not just financially.
“It means replacement buildings and new play equipment we badly need.
“New infrastructure in Brentwood Council – the chamber needs a freshen up. But all this comes at a cost and must come from revenue.”
