THE memory of a Brentwood woman who helped forge relationships with foreign towns will live on after an avenue of trees was planted in her honour on Shenfield Common.

Jill Dimmock, who played a vital role in setting up the Brentwood-Landkreis Roth Twinning Association 35 years ago, died in January.

Dignitaries from the town in Germany have been in Brentwood celebrating the partnership and were part of a group who unveiled the lime trees, which now line the path on the common, and has been named as the Jill Dimmock Peace Walk.

Mrs Dimmock helped to set up the partnership – which also sees Brentwood partner Montbazon in France – which has helped to build educational link between the areas.

A plaque was also unveiled as a mark of respect.

Brentwood Mayor, Councillor Vicky Davies, said: “Jill Dimmock was a wonderful lady and Town Twinning was one of the many contributions that she made to the borough of Brentwood.

“She was highly regarded by all, so The Jill Dimmock Peace Walk is a fitting tribute to a lovely lady.”

Mrs Dimmock’s husband, Gordon, said: “The family appreciate the acknowledgement of Jill’s work in starting the Town Twinning and ensuring that it continued.

“She was involved in it for more than 35 years and she was particularly keen to encourage youth visits.”
