SUNSHINE, rain, superstars and selfies were the order of the day as Chelmsford hosted 90,000 music fans for the V Festival.

Glorious sunshine on Saturday made way for heavy showers yesterday at Hylands Park.

Saturday saw crowds at the main stage as the likes of the Kaiser Chiefs, Example and Ed Sheeran rattled out their greatest hits.

Headliner Justin Timberlake – dressed all in black and wearing a trilby hat – played a 90- minute set.

The Memphis-born star might not have known the name of the city he was performing in, constantly referring to the Chelmsford crowd as “England”.

But one lucky Timberlake fan had a selfie taken with the star after he jumped down from the stage.

One disappointment for fans was the no-show of Welsh rockers the Manic Street Preachers, who cancelled after their plane got stuck in Budapest.

Yesterday saw the likes of Paolo Nutini, Tinie Tempah and Rudimental drive the crowds wild before headliners the Killers signed off the weekend.

Before the festival got under way on Saturday, police reported 16 people had been arrested for drug offences.

The ambulance service recorded more than 100 calls during the weekend and St John Ambulance helped more than 400 festival goers.
