CALLS have been made for better disabled parking facilities to be installed at Brentwood station.

Currently motorists have to park on the opposite side of the road to the main entrance of the station in Alexandra Road.

This can cause an obvious problem for those with difficulty walking or those who use a wheelchair.

County councillor David Kendall wants to see short-term parking bays in Alexandra Road, close to the taxi rank, switched to disabled bays only.

Mr Kendall said he his working with the county council to come up with a solution. He said: “Disabled drivers quite rightly want some parking closer to the station, and down near the taxi rank would be a really good position.”

Jim Hoare, 59, a committee member at Brentwood Access Group, backed Mr Kendall’s calls. He said: “At the station itself, it’s geographically very difficult to see where else any spaces could go.”
