A YOUNG man who battled cancer three times is taking on an extreme obstacle course to raise money for the charity that supported him.
Brendan Wheatley, of Church Crescent, Mountnessing, was 20 when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and had to have surgery.
He was told the cancer had spread to his lungs and lymph nodes and he had to have intensive chemotherapy at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, in London.
Now, aged 22, he is in remission and aiming to raise as much money as possible for CLIC Sargent, a charity which give him £500 towards his travel costs during treatment, by completing the testing Tough Mudder obstacle course.
Brendan has teamed up for the challenege with his girlfriend, Alice White, 19, and his mum’s partner, Col Gough, 34, to form Team Testicles.
He said: “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and – as I’ve found out – life can be a bit short, so I thought I’d go for it.
“I also wanted to give back to the charity that helped me when I was ill, whichwas great.”
Alice, of Ferndown Way, Hatfield Peverel, added: “We wanted to do it to celebrate the progress Brendan has made, but also to enable the fantastic charities that supported him and to support other young people long into the future.”
