RAIL USERS are facing an Easter weekend of travel chaos as upgrades are carried out to overhead lines between Ingatestone and London Liverpool Street.

The work by Network Rail will take place between Ingatestone and London Liverpool Street on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday and will mean no trains will run between the two stations, affecting users hoping to travel into London from Brentwood.

The news comes a week after the Weekly News spoke to Jamie Burles, managing director of Abellio Greater Anglia, who spoke out in defence of the company, insisting the views of rail users were important and always listened to.

Greater Anglia, which has no responsibility for the rail line work or overhead line work, will be running a bus replacement service between Ingatestone and Newbury Park where passengers will be advised to boardaCentral line tube.

But dismayed rail users have spoken out against the work, claiming that the rail replacement service is just too slow.

Unimpressed Paul Matthews, 28, said: “I got the replacement bus last Saturday and it wasn’t good.

"I was hoping that this latest round of engineering works would be the end of it for a while.

“I can’t believe we’re all going to have to suffer this again so soon and over Easter too, it’s not on really.”

Jessie Baxton, 22, from Brentwood, said: “Nightmare.

"I honestly don’t know what rail bosses are thinking of half the time.”

The work is part of nation-wide improvements taking place over the two days."

Mr Burles said: “Although there is neveragood time for such works, this investment will help in our joint objective with Network Rail to deliver more consistent train service performance.”
