IT’S not just their MP voters will be choosing on May 7 – they’ll also be voting for the make-up of their council.
A rainbow coalition made up of the Lib Dems, the Brentwood First group, Labour and Independent Roger Keeble took control from the Tories for the first time in ten years in Brentwood last year. Tory leader councillor Louise McKinlay is desperate to regain control of the Town Hall from the grips of councillor Barry Aspinell, who’s “Accord”
group has been quick to implement change in the borough, not least getting the William Hunter Way project back up and running.
It’s the Tories though who have the most to lose with six of its candidates up for election.
It looks like the end of the Brentwood First group, with William Lloyd and Russell Quirk both standing down from their councillor roles this year, as well as Labour leader Mike Le-Surf. How that will affect the Accord group remains to be seen.
