A HAIRDRESSER has high hopes his new salon can offer customers a special experience.

Matt Bolton, 42, opened his salon, foureighty, in Hutton Road, Shenfield, after tiring of the “conveyor belt” attitudes of larger salons, which he believes rush customers and ruin what he believes should be a relaxing experience.

The dad-of-two, who been a hairdresser for 23 years and has previously worked for high-end brands such as Gucci and Toni and Guy, said: “This is a small salon, but it’s kept small by design.

“I’ve worked for larger salons for most of my life and they almost always have that conveyor-belt attitude, of trying to see as many customers as quickly as possible .

“It’s just churned out work so people are paying top prices and, in my opinion, are being short changed.

“We sometimes had a little as 40 minutes per customer, so I offer hour-long appointments and we hope to bring a personal touch back to hairdressing.”

With just two stylists, Mat t and a technician, he hopes to get to know his regular customers well and encourage a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

He said: “When you go into some high-end salons the staff can be sniffy and it can be really intimidating, but we want to be friendly and approachable.

“What I want is to have regular customers coming in because they enjoy having their hair cut here as well as being pleased with the cut.

“I want to offer a high-end service but make it accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

“We are trying to provide an excellent output of work without it all infringing on the customer’s enjoyment.”
