IT'S the end of a long week and we're all looking forward to the weekend. So we've put together a list of ten things to do in Essex this weekend.

1. HADLEIGH Old Fire Station will host a sculpture exhibition this weekend.

Works by sculptors Ostinelli & Priest will be on display alongside work from artists across the UK.

Visitors can bid on the work in a sealed bid auction.

Proceeds will be shared between helping abandoned dogs in Cyprus and Hadleigh Art Trail.

The exhibition takes place at on Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 5pm.

2. BRAINBOXES are invited to a quiz night in Frinton.

Teams of six are invited with an entry fee of £5 per person at Frinton Chapel Pre-School on Old Road.

Doors for the testing event on Saturday May 9 open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start.

Proceeds will go towards new play equipment for the school.

3. CANVEY Community Archive will host its next library session on Saturday.

Residents can visit the local history group between 10am and 2pm at the library, in Canvey High Street.

4. A HISTORICAL exhibition will be held to celebrate the 70th anniversary of VE Day.

Historical photographs and artefacts will be displayed at Christ Church Hall, Gateway Service Road, Wickford, between 10am and 4pm on Saturday, May 9.

Members of the Wickford Community Archive will be on hand take down visitors? memories of Wickford and to copy photographs onto the archive website.

Victory in Europe Day celebrated the end of the Second World War, on May 8, 1945.

5. A STAMP fair will be held in Langdon Hills on Saturday.

The fair will take place at Methodist Church Hall, in High Road, between 10am and 3.30pm.

6. SCOUTS are holding a table top sale to raise funds for Manningtree first responders after being givena defibrillator for their community hall.

The 1st Lawford Scouts will host the sale from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday, at the Venture Centre, in Bromley Road, Lawford.

7. RANGERS will lead a dawn chorus walk through Wat Tyler Park on Sunday.

Visitors are invited to listen to birdsong. The walk takes place between 5am and 7am, folowed by breakfast.

Meet at the RSPB visitor centre in the park in Pitsea Hall Lane, Basildon.

Tickets, £10 members, £12 non-members. Booking is essential.

8. AT ROMAN Circus House, Roman Circus Walk, Colchester, there will be vintage military vehicles from WW2 and the 1940s, two guided tours by Peter Hall, a small exhibition, the cafe, and a lively outdoor concert with the Tendring Thunderbirds quintet and two professional soloists, singers Natasha Bennett and Fiona Morris of local vocal group Quattro Amici.

9. EACH year Colchester Borough Council organises a programme of concerts on the Victorian bandstand in Colchester?s Castle Park.

The concerts take place on Sunday afternoons (and the occasional Saturday) through the summer from May to September. This Sunday, a concert will take place from 3pm until 5pm.

10. THOUSANDS of people will take part in Southend's Race for Life this Sunday. 

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring women-only series of 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy and Marathon events which raises millions of pounds every year to help beat 200 different types of cancer.

Money raised through Race for Life allows Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists to advance research which is helping to save the lives of men, women and children across the county.

A 5k race will take place on Sunday 10 May at 11am at Garon Park.
