ERIC Pickles has been re-elected with 30,534 votes.

The Conservative candidate came out on top in the Brentwood and Ongar parliamentary vote, with a massive 21,810 majority over the UK Independence Party Michael McGough, who received 8,724 votes.

The count, which took place at the Brentwood Centre, was revealed just after 4am.

Labour’s Liam Preston came next in the line-up, with 6,492 votes, followed by the Liberal Democrat’s David Kendall, who received 4,577 votes, Reza Hossain of the Green Party, who took 1,397 votes and Robin Tilbrook, of the English Democrats, who received 173 votes.

Taking to Twitter after the results, Mr Pickles said: “Thank you to the voters of Brentwood and Ongar for reelecting me as their MP.”

A total of 52,050 ballot papers were counted in this year’s election, which had a 69per cent turnout, and 153 rejected papers.
