Two Brentwood care workers who recently won top national awards for their efforts have gone on to receive further recognition from their employer, Voyage Care.

Raphael Akinwumi and Heidi Hovell were honoured last week at a staff awards ceremony after they beat off stiff competition from across the UK to win the Care Home Worker and Care Newcomer categories respectively at the Great British National Care Home Awards.

They both work at Quiet Waters, a residential care home in Brentwood, which is operated by leading social care provider Voyage Care.

The judges of the national awards singled out Raphael’s attention to and perception of service users’ needs at all times and were unanimously impressed by Heidi’s level of maturity describing her as an ‘asset to the care sector’.

Andrew Winning, interim CEO of Voyage Care said: ”We were delighted when Raphael and Heidi were rewarded for their hard work and dedication in these national awards.

"Working in the care sector can be challenging as well as fulfilling so we wanted to share their success with our own staff and showcase what makes Raphael and Heidi outstanding.

“At our annual awards ceremony staff from across the UK had the opportunity to meet Raphael and Heidi and get some hints and tips from the Brentwood pair.

"Most importantly, we could all share in their fantastic achievement which mirrors the hard work and commitment given by so many of our staff.

Heidi said: “My job is all about promoting independence and I love the fact I can make a real difference to people’s lives.”

It’s a view that’s shared by Raphael. He said: “Regardless of how small, everything we do has an impact on the people we support and nothing is more rewarding than seeing beaming smiles on their faces.”
