Since its initiation in February 2014, signing up to the Essex Energy Switch has saved 7,227 residents nearly £1million.

The Essex Energy Switch is a county wide collective energy switching campaign designed to help Essex residents cut their gas and electricity bills.

Joining forces together, first in 2014 and then again in 2015 a cohort of 7,227 Essex residents generated, on average, a saving of £263 per household on their energy bills.

The competitive energy rates generated through the Essex Energy Switch auction, tempted 33.5% of registrants to switch their energy supplier.

Paul Hinsley, an Essex Energy Switcher, said: “For what turned out to be a simple process, I was able to save over £400.

"I also found the links to energy savings advice extremely useful – pay less, use less – a real win win!”

Cllr David Finch, leader of Essex County Council said: “We have had a great response to the Essex Energy Switch since it was introduced in Essex over 12 months ago.

"I am delighted to think that so many residents have been able to save close to £1million on their energy bills, and would like to see even more residents take up the offer in the future.

“Collective auctions for competitive energy rates are hosted regularly online, and I urge any residents who missed the Essex Energy Switch to look out for these to help bring their energy bills down.”

Plans are in place for the next 2015/16 auction.

The scheme will open in December 2015 ready for a February 2016 auction; Essex County Council will once again encourage residents to take part and to take time to reflect on their current energy bill outgoings.

Essex residents save £1million with the Essex Energy SwitchThe initiative is open to residential customers whether homeowners or tenants as well as any small or medium sized business operating within the county.
