IT'S the weekend again and we've put together a few things to keep you busy.

1. ENJOY the outdoors at the annual Canvey Garden Trail.

12 residential and church gardens across the island will open up their gates to the public on Saturday July 25.

All monies raised will go to a local charity which is to be announced.

Programmes are £3each and are available now at the following locations, Canvey Island Town Council Offices, Garden World, GMD Mowers, Canvey Supply, Sainsburys Canvey Island, Nisa Local Jones Corner, St Nicholas’ Church and Castle Point Transport Museum.

Each programme allows one adult entry into all gardens, children are free, if accompanied by a paying adult. Plants, jams, teas and coffees will also be on sale at some garden locations. Gardens will be indicated by green and yellow balloons as they are in private residential areas.

2. POND dipping and minibeast hunting are set to be the main attractions at an annual summer fair.

The event at Hanningfield Reservoir, in Billericay, will also include drums, bouncy castles, and a range of stalls and games.

It will take place between 10am and 4pm on Sunday, July 26.

Entry costs £2 per adult, £1 per child, and £5 for a family.

3. YOGA teachers are staging an event in aid of Tilbury dad John Rushton, whose arms and legs had to be amputated because of a blood infection.

Mr Rushton suffered the infection after a common cold developed complications.

On July 26, yoga teachers Mandy and Terry Williams will hold a fundraising yoga day at the Mayura Yoga Studio, in Thorpe Esplanade, Thorpe Bay, offering yoga and meditation classes from 9.30am until about 2.30pm.

4. THERE will be a summer fair at Garon Park Golf Complex, Eastern Avenue, Southend on July 25 from noon until 6pm.

The traditional fair with food, drink and music includes child activities and craft stalls as well as a host of entertainment and community spirit.

There will be live acts throughout the day.

Entrance costs £10 for adults and £5 for children. A family ticket costs £25.

5. Cancer Research’s Relay for Life will take place this weekend at Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre. During the Relay itself, team members take it in turns to walk round a track while everyone else enjoys a wide range of fun activities on offer, including this year a Retro Fair which will be open to the public. As Relay For Life is non-stop through the night, those team members not on the track can take turns to rest, eat, or sleep in their tents which are set up close by.

As dusk falls, the atmosphere quietens as the Candle of Hope ceremony begins. The event is the most poignant part of Relay For Life when specially made Candle of Hope bags - decorated with touching messages in memory or in celebration of loved ones - are filled with sand and lit up with candles around the Southend Leisure & Tennis Athletics Track This is the seventh time Relay For Life has taken place in Southend.

6. CANVEY Island’s Rotary Club will be presenting a free concert on Sunday, July 26.

“T by The Sea” takes place at the Seafront Bandstand from 2pm - 5pm.

Local band, Bif Bam Pow, has confirmed they will be performing at the event.

7. The annual Kirste Five Memorial race will be held this Sunday to remember former police offer Kirste.

Kids race begins at 10am and main race at 10.30am at Grove Wood Primary School.

8. Little Havens Hospice are holding a woodland walk, around the woodlands of the Thundersley base, for families and children on Sunday.

This is a brand new event for the hospice and will see lots of local children and their families take part in a 1.5k walk through the woodlands at Little Havens Hospice and meeting characters along the way. There will also be tractor rides for the children and other activities like face painting, a toy sale, craft corner etc.

The first of three scheduled walks will take place at 11.15am with families gathering from 10.45am.

9. The Dragon boat race will be held on the River Chelmer at Backnang Square in Chelmsford this Sunday from 11am. Teams of 10 paddlers, plus a drummer will battle it out in ornate 30 foot Chinese Dragon Boats over a 200m course.

Lots of contestants this year to raise money for Chelmsford charity the J's Hospice.

10. Weald Country Park Medieval Show oin us as we turn South Weald Country Park into a historic battlefield.

Historic battles and living history from the fifteenth century based around The War of the Roses and The Hundred Years War.

Battle re-enactment, living history, falconry, trebuchet, archery, guns, stalls, puppet theatre, great food, licenced bar and more .........

A great day out for all the family in the beautiful setting of Weald Country Park, Weald Road, South Weald, Brentwood, Essex, CM14 5QS.
