An American fife and drum corps band will be delivering a one-off performance for Brentwood shoppers this weekend.

The William Diamond Junior Fife and Drum Corps will be at the Chapel Ruins, in the High Street, on Saturday 15th August at 11am.

The Corps was formed in 2002 in Lexington, Massachusetts, with the aim of promoting the study of traditional fife and drum music, fellowship and history to young Americans aged 8 to 18.

The six holed wooden fife and a rope tension drum is the signature sound of colonial New England and the young musicians wear traditional clothing worn by people with yeoman status living in Lexington in 1775.

The William Diamond Juniors have performed at numerous ceremonies and parades including New York City’s St Patrick’s Day Parade and at Walt Disney World in Florida.

During their trip to the UK the band will be meeting members of the Brentwood Imperial Youth Band, visiting the Essex Regimental Chapel, and will be playing at the Tower of London at the National Sea Cadet Band Competition finals.

The Mayor of Brentwood, Councillor Mark Reed, said: "I am very much looking forward to meeting the young musicians of the William Diamond Juniors and seeing such a traditional American band perform in the middle of Brentwood.

I think our shoppers will be given a real treat. I hope lots of residents can stop by and enjoy the performance with me."
