Members of the Shenfield and Hutton (Morning) Women’s Institute (WI) have been busy knitting Trauma Teddies for Essex Police.

The cuddly toys were presented to Chief Inspector Leigh Norris on Thursday 20th August and will be given to young children who have been involved in distressing or stressful incidents.

The ladies were inspired to knit the teddies after reading about their counterparts at the Earls Colne WI who donated their very own supply of trauma teddies earlier this year.

Chief Inspector Norris said: "Irrespective of age, being involved in a situation that requires police attendance can be a stressful experience, but it can be particularly upsetting for young children who may not understand what is happening.

A simple thing like a cuddly toy can help comfort and reassure children in times of distress. I would like to thank the 'Teddies for Tragedies' charity as well as all the volunteers from the WI who have given up their time to knit these Trauma Teddies.”
