Did you know that by sharing a lift to work you can save £80 a month?

This week is Liftshare week, when people are encouraged to join forces and share travel to get to work.

To mark national Liftshare week, a prize of £250 is available to anyone who registers with the Essex Car Share scheme and sends another member a request to share message by Sunday 11 October to be entered into a prize draw. T

his is a UK-wide prize and is offered by Liftshare who are one of the providers of car sharing schemes across the UK. As an added bonus, anyone registering with the scheme by 11 October will also receive a selection of Essex Car Share branded goodies.

Cllr Rodney Bass, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, said: “Lift sharing saves money for individuals and also eases congestion on our county’s roads. Essex County Council is happy to support an initiative which helps keeps transport moving.”

Regular car-shares can save on average £80 a month and members of the Essex Car Share scheme can save about £140 a month.

The scheme helps people to share local journeys. There are currently more than 1,700 members within the Essex Car Share scheme who have a journey available to share.

Not all members of the scheme have cars. Some members are happy to give a lift to a friend or colleague in return for a contribution to fuel costs.

Car sharing significantly reduces CO2 emissions which contributes towards a healthier and happier community and helps to reduce congestion on our roads.

The Essex Car Share scheme is open to anyone who lives or works in Essex. Find out more at www.essexcarshare.com
