Brentwood School pupils enjoyed a days training with some of the best youth football coaches.

Some 65 aspiring footballers took part in the Essex Leg of the nationwide roadshow, organised by inspiresport, and were put through their paces by four top coaches from the FC Porto Academy.

Head of Football, Mr Matthew Miller said: “The quality of coaching provided by the FC Porto coaches was excellent, as was evident by the pupils’ enjoyment and improvement throughout the day. The attention to detail and quality of communication provided by the coaches was a particular highlight despite English not being their native language.

“This was an excellent opportunity for Brentwood School to further our already strong relationship with professional football clubs all over the world and a huge thank you to inspiresport whose organisation and staff allowed the day to flow without any problem.

"The event also allowed us to welcome 23 different schools from Essex, Kent and Hertfordshire who commented on the quality of facilities and hospitality provided by the staff at Brentwood.

“To top the day off, inspiresport also presented Brentwood School with a signed Iker Casillas goalkeeper shirt.

"Iker is the all-time highest capped Spanish Footballer and has won every major domestic and international honour on offer and as such we are extremely grateful for the gift.

"Well done to all involved in what was a great day.”

inspiresport Youth Development Director Jonathan Young said: “The FC Porto Coaching Roadshow is not only about skill sessions and coaching drills.

"The key is to reach out to school teachers and present a coaching system through which individual and groups of coaches can unlock their true potential.

"Learning about the psychology, the dynamics and the passion it takes to truly help cultivate and nurture the creative football potential of our young players.”

The roadshow, which attracted boys and girls, was designed as a taster session, and included coaching for players and teachers, a tournament, and presentation of certificates and session plans.

The roadshow now moves on to Reading, Newbury, Shropshire, Manchester and Edinburgh.
