Brentwood and Ongar Labour Party have announced their candidate for the Shenfield by-election.

Cameron Ball, 18, has lived in Brentwood his whole life and attends Brentwood County High School Sixth Form and has been an active member of the Labour Party for the past two years.

On announcing his candidacy Cameron said: "I have always found politics fascinating and its ability to make such positive changes to people's lives.

"I'm not someone who wants to be a politician just for the sake of it; I want to have a real impact for the residents of Shenfield.

"I'll give a voice to those in the ward who need support from their elected officials but currently aren't getting it."

Cameron was an active campaigner during the Labour Leadership contest and believes that young people have a part to play in government.

He said: "I think a lot of people will say that experience is important - and it is - but so is energy and enthusiasm.

"I think our council has ran out of the last two.

"I spent a large amount of time knocking on doors and talking to residents during the General Election and it has given me an understanding and a feel for the issues they face.

"To be a good councillor you have to listen and respond.

"That's what I'll do during the campaign and that's what I'll do if elected."

Labour Group Leader, Councillor Barrett, said "Cameron has been a fantastic campaigner for the local party and understands the issues people are facing.

"I think he would make a wonderful councillor for Shenfield and a great addition to the council chamber."
