Brentwood's Friday market has celebrated its first birthday.

The weekly retail and farmers' market has been open on the High Street for a year, focussing on local food produce and complementing existing retailers and businesses.

It runs in addition to the Saturday market, which has been in the High Street for four years.

Brentwood Borough Council's Chair of the Economic Development Committee, Councillor Keith Parker, said: "Thank you to all the residents and visitors who have supported the market and have made it the success it is one year on.

The market has a good selection of small businesses selling lots of local produce and has worked well in addition to the Saturday Market.”

Mike Allen, from Essex Farmers' Markets, who operate the market, said: "Happy first birthday to Brentwood Farmers’ and Retail market.

"It's been very good year for the market with new traders and it's becoming more and more popular throughout the year.

"Thank you all for the support from the public and we hope to increase it to match the size of the Saturday Market."

Jacky Frost, owner of Jacky's Boutique, said: "The market is a good addition to the High Street.

"There are different shoppers on the Friday to the Saturday market; on the Friday we usually have people who work in Brentwood or local residents, who have become our regular customers now."
