A THEATRE has vowed ‘the show will go on’ after it was targeted by thieves twice in just five months.

Brentwood Theatre staff were devastated when they discovered heartless thieves had smashed their way into the theatre stolen a small sum of cash and caused thousands of pounds of damage.

During another break-in last August thieves stole cash from the till, forced open the main front door to the theatre and also broke internal doors..

But now, following last week’s burglary, the community is pulling together to support the theatre in raising money towards fixing the damage and increasing security.

Mark Reed, Brentwood Town Mayor and administrator at the theatre said: “We were very upset as although they took very little they caused so much damage.

"We have now got to spend a lot of time to sort it out and have to invest more money in more security .

"That's really going to eat into our time, which we feel very precious about as so many people give it up for nothing.

“Everyone was so shocked it had happened again.

“But the response has been phenomenal and we are going to hold a fundraising evening."

Already local dance groups, musicians and local actors have signed up to take part in the event on Saturday, April 9 and cash donations and raffle prizes have been rolling in.

Mr Reed added: “It’s really cheered us all up and that’s just as important; the money wouldn’t have shut us down but when we work so hard and someone comes along and destroys that it’s very upsetting.

“But we are very grateful to everyone and are now looking forward to a great night.” Book tickets at brentwood-theatre.co.uk
