Brentwood School swimmers have won the Mid-Essex Relay Championships for the tenth year in a row.

This year’s annual competition was hosted by William de Ferrers School and 11 schools went head to head for the coveted title.

The formidable senior boys’ team was ably supported by captains, Albert Smith, Charlie Cortney, Jonathan Akerman and Calum Connelly, all of whom played their own part in achieving the first place finish in the boys’ competition.

Also piling on the pressure were the senior girls, led by captains, Alice Lindsay, Frankie Collins, Juliette Skilling, Rachel Burgin, Niamh Donnelly and Jessie Nash, who valiantly helped secure second place in the girls’ competition.

A notable performance was by Second Year pupil Albert Smith who broke the School record for 25 metres front crawl in a hasty time of 13.90 seconds.

Mrs Carol Melvin, Head of Swimming at Brentwood School, said: “Another fantastic achievement for the swimmers winning overall girls’ and boys’ titles for the 10th year running! I am extremely proud of them all.”

And the celebrations continued as the swimmers later competed in the Essex Counties Swimming Championships with equally impressive achievements from a number of individuals.

First Year pupil, Mide Olajide, won gold in the 400m individual medley and 200m breaststroke and silver in the 100m butterfly.

Amelia Moule, a Second Year pupil in the 13/14 year group, struck gold in the 100m freestyle, scooped silver in the 200m individual medley and gained bronze in the 100m breaststroke, all of which were won in personal best times.

Fifth Year pupil Dermot O’Doherty won a silver medal in the 200m backstroke and was a finalist in the 100m freestyle.

With such a strong start to the year, hopes are high for the remainder of the season.
