FANS of GC’s Jazz club are in for a treat this Sunday as local musician Simon Hurley returns.

Guitarist Simon Hurley, of Colchester, is musician who is competent in many styles, from rock to blues to country and funk.

Graeme Culham, who or - ganises the GC’s Jazz club at the Woolpack in Mildmay Road, Chelmsford, said: “Simon graduated in 2010 with a First Class Honours Degree from Colchester Institute and was also awarded a Centre Prize for Music.

“Simon is a fluent soloist as well as a accompanist, often simultaneously mixing chords, walking bass lines and single note passages.

“His jazz playing is much inspired by that of Joe Pass and Martin Taylor who is quoted as describing Simon’s playing as ‘Just Beautiful’.”

Mr Hurley will be joined during the evening by the Dan Banks Trio and Mr Culham himself on the drums.

Mr Culham added: “Dan is no stranger to the local jazz scene due to being not only a versatile pianist but a composer and arranger for various jazz projects in Mainstream and Funk styles.

“Like all talented professional musicians he can also be found in various function bands and is in great demand as a tutor in Essex and Kent.

“Our policy is jazz for everyone. No restrictions on styles and instruments, Just good honest jazz played by talented musicians to keep music live.

Mr Banks is also a member of the Graeme Culham Sextet.

Jose Canha will also perform on the String Bass during the performance on Sunday, April 3.
