THIS YEAR'S Strawberry Fair in Brentwood will be a right royal affair to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday!

Come and enjoy the festivities at Strawberries and Queen on Saturday, June 11 from 12pm to 6pm on Shenfield Common.

Youngsters can get creative with some regal arts and crafts and make crowns, colour and knit with Brentwood Baptist Church.

You can also dress up like royalty and have a selfie with the 'Queen' and enjoy majestic entertainment throughout the day.

There will be a Big Top, hosted by Phoenix FM, with a variety of royal-themed performances for visitors to enjoy, including folk music, ukulele players, local dance and music groups and even a karate demonstration.

Fair-goers are also invited to take part in the Best Dressed Kings and Queens Competition.

It is open to all ages, especially younger children. Organisers would love to see some fantastic outfits and there will be a prize for the most majestic costume - just turn up in your fancy dress!

Competition entrants should meet at the purple Big Top tent at 3.30pm to be judged by the Mayor of Brentwood.

In our display arena, there will be a special maypole performance from Doddinghurst Infants School and some amazing birds of prey displays from Eden Falconry.

There will also be a traditional big wheel and funfair rides for children, Punch and Judy shows and activities in the little Princes and Princesses area.

Visitors can relax in the banqueting area and enjoy a spot of croquet and boules, whilst sampling some tasty food and enjoying a tipple - and it wouldn't be a Strawberry Fair without trying some strawberries and cream.

There is free entry to the event and there will be public parking available at Brentwood County High School for £2 with all proceeds going to conserving Shenfield Common.

Brentwood Borough Council's Chair of the Community, Health and Leisure Committee, Councillor Keith Parker, said: "This year's event is particularly special because it is a royal year and we are celebrating the Queen's birthday.

"It is always a good family day out and this year there's plenty to see and do, all with a royal-theme. And remember, there is a prize for the best dressed King or Queen.

"Thanks must go to sponsors the Baytree Centre, The Beeches Care Home, and Beresfords, who make it possible to keep the event free entry for the community enjoy."
