FOOTBALL fans in Essex will be able to travel for half price to West Ham home matches at the club's new stadium.

West Ham United and rail operator Abellio Greater Anglia have announced a new discount scheme available on matchdays.

Fans will be able to use the discount for all first-team home matches at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford.

There are two schemes available to supporters.

Customers can buy a season ticket, which provides return tickets at about 50 per cent normal rate for all 19 home league matches for the 2016/17 season.

The season ticket will also allow free travel to cup and friendly matches during the campaign.

The other option is a flexi-ticket, which allows supporters to buy ten tickets to use for the home matches of their choice throughout the course of the season.

Fans travelling from Southend Victoria or Rayleigh to Stratford will be able to buy a season ticket for £140.25 or a flexi-ticket for £73.75, at a rate of £7.38 per match.

The tickets are available at an equivalent of £7.02 per match from Chelmsford, £9.95 from Witham or £12.31 from Colchester.

Tickets must be purchased before August 31.

West Ham are about to begin their first season playing at London's Olympic Stadium, moving after 102 years at the nearby Boleyn Ground.
