A PUPIL had a wish of having a go at bricklayer fulfilled after writing a letter.

Emily Boucher, a pupil at Quilters Junior School, in Billericay, donned hard hats and high visibility jackets along with five other pupils at the school when they joined the David Wilson Homes team at the Stanford Park development in Stanford-Le-Hope, Thurrock.

Emily had written a letter to the company to say that she would like to be a bricklayer when she grows up.

The students were given a safety tour of the Stanford Park site by site manager James Armstrong.

Emily also got to fulfil her wish and have a go at bricklaying, along with a number of other trade activities.

She said: “It was great.

"I don't think I've ever had a better experience in my life.

"My favourite part was bricklaying."

Mr Armstrong said: “It was an absolute delight to have the children visit the development and to have them gain a ‘hands on’ experience of what goes into building a home.

“It was also a great way to ensure the children realise how dangerous a building site can be and that they are not to be used as a playground, which is a particularly important lesson as we draw nearer to the summer holidays.”

Emily’s teacher, Mrs Hartley said: “Having David Wilson Holmes respond to Emily's job application was just so exciting.

"It was wonderful opportunity and privilege to be go around the development.

"The girls were able to ask questions, tour a show home and got to experience first-hand what it would be like to be a bricklayer - they even built their very own brick wall.

"It was an unforgettable experience.”
